The cheapo effective 1,650 mm 5.6 tele (Q + adapter + Tamron 70-300 and other lenses)

I am the happy owner of a Q with 01 prime and a 40 Euro Q to PK adapter (which allows to set lenses to their widest aperture, though) for two weeks. The weather was quite misty during this time but today I found opportunity and good light to give the Q + adapter combo a try with some of my lenses: the DA 35 limited, the Sigma 105 2.8 macro, and the 130 Euro cheapissimo Tamron 70-300 4-5.6 macro.

Of course, my intention was to mount the Q on my tripod. Yet I discovered that my (quite big) connection plate collides with the Q-K-adapter and prevents me from using this combo with the Q. So I'll have to get smaller connection plate before I can mount the Q with adapter to my tripod.

I was so much interested how well the lenses would perform on the Q that I simply pressed the Q with adapter on the tripod mount which gave a reasonably steady hold to get some first samples.

All shots are jpegs from unprocessed RAWs except for my standard sharpening and some level and tilt correction in the Q+01 shot. Full size files are available via the gallery page. Exif should be included.

PLease remember that all K-mount lenses had to be shot at the widest aperture due to the construction of the Q-K-adapter.

Q + 01 prime (8.5 mm equiv. to 47 mm on FF)

Please, note the grey tower in the center and the small golden rectangle at roof top level.

Q + DA 35 limited macro (35 mm equiv. to 192.5 mm on FF)

Q + Sigma 105 2.8 macro (105 mm equiv. to 577.5 mm on FF)

Somehow this was the most difficult lens to hold steady. It might be sharper when truly mounted on a tripod.

Q + Tamron 70-300 4-5.6 @ 300 mm and 5.6 (equiv. to 1,650 mm on FF)

Now look at this. The Tamron is known for its sharpness and especially the center was tested very well by Klaus on Photozone, yet I never expected anything even close to this. Remember, this is an uncropped shot (full size in my gallery).

Of course the magenta flare at the gold highlights is obvious, but it fades away almost completely when I turn down the magenta saturation (which I did not do here).

If you wonder about the strange wavy vertical look of the tin construction I had a closer look at the tower and the tin is as wavy as you can see here. Just compare it to the fece bars which are perfectly straight.

Hope this is of interest for you. Thanks for looking
