I too was arrested by the last image. There's something magnetic about it. There are a lot of conflicting elements along both structural (the cross-thatch of the shadows on the ground, the people at either end of the photo traveling in opposite directions) and tonal (the interplay of light and dark in general) dimensions.

Many of the above posters agree too. I am reminded of Carl Jung's theory of a collective unconsciousness--he said that humans are hard-wired to appreciate such things as symmetry and highly symmetrical objects (e.g. mandalas) in a way that transcends borders.
