I just ordered and installed Lightroom 4. I was running a trial version and had run a lot of other programms so I decided to format my pc and install LR on a clear OS again. it works fine but unfortunately after import of the trial catalog it seems like I've lost my work. Why, I don't know.

LR made backups from it but I'm not sure how to put them back or what would be the workflow. Can somebody give me some advise?

Open Lightroom and go to the Library module.  Set it to Grid View (press G), then look at the upper-right corner of the thumbnails.  If they are missing you will see a red question mark (called a badge in Lightroom).  Right-click on any of the question marks and use the dialog box that appears to navigate to the "true" location of your files (not the backed up drive).  You will also see an option to "find nearby files."  If you click on that option, Lightroom will also find all the other missing files.

My second question, I also want to buy a good LR4 book. Did somebody bought "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 Classroom in a Book" ?

It seems like a great book to start with...

My suggestion would be to download and read the free Lightroom 4 User Guide:  http://help.adobe.com/en_US/lightroom/using/lightroom_4_help.pdf

In my experience most Lightroom books simply rehash the information available for free in the User Guide.
