Lens hood lubrication?

The lens hoods on a couple of my longer used lenses have become difficult to turn on and off the lenses. I have cleaned the "threads" as best I can and that seems to help somewhat. Is there a lubricant which can be used with these plastic lens accessories or is using a lubricant a "no-no"?
