1. Nikon never intended the camera for action shooters... they just provided a camera that would connect the past (D2 - doing better what D2 was doing) ...with the future (D3), it was some of the consumers that gave the product an identity of "poor man's action body"... never Nikon's intention.

What factual data can you site that explains exactly what Nikon's intentions were with the D300? This just sounds like another of your opinions that you are again trying to state as fact.

2. Who ever said that Nikon will be abandoning DX? They will only "drop" "D300 design approach" because there aren't enough customers to support its existence... You (and I..., - I like the "idea" behind the camera) may think that they represent a large target group... but reality is different.

I didn't say anything about abandoning DX. You sir are bashing the notion of a high-end DX camera (Nikon's best AF, at least 8fps, pro-style controls and ergonomics like AF-ON, etc...).

3. No competitor has a "d300 values" alternative... that's exactly why Nikon will "drop" the product, all competitors have D7K competitors... That's exactly why Nikon will be updating the D7K....

I don't know how Nikon's inner workings work, but most successful companies look first at the market and would love to serve market needs that competitors are not serving. I personally think a D400 would sell even better than a D600 and probably have an even higher profit margin because the sensor costs so much less. So, I think there's a significant opportunity there if Nikon wants to exploit it. The fact that a competitor isn't actively exploiting it make it an even greater opportunity if the market is really there.

4. Agreed, but this doesn't change the fact that D7K sells 20 times more than D300... It's the figures that form a product... a product with low market figures (or appealing to low volume of customers) is extremely dangerous to a factory... it may cause bankruptcy...

The D300, when it was first shipped, was a very, very successful product. No doubt the D7000 will sell more than a D400 just like the D3200 outsells all of them. I personally think a D400 would outsell a D600 because for most photographers a D400 offers more value than a D600 (it costs less and does more). Only those shooting in the dark or super wide actually need FX.

5. Of course it's not... it sells more than D300 ever did.

Can you share your factual data on D600 sales vs. D300 sales?

6. Of course it's not... it sells more than D300 will ever do, yet its DX crop mode does better than D300 ever did and can satisfy D300 owners more than D300 ever did...

Can you share your factual data on D800 sales vs. D300 sales?

Since Nikon has chosen 4digit odd numbers naming (1.3.5.7.9) for its DX and 3digit even numbers (2.4.6.8) for its FX, you can expect the D400 (if it will ever exist) to be an ..FX camera and the D9000 to be a DX flagship that will compete with (much better selling) Canon's 7D face to face... which is in what 7D excels (being worst than D7K in stills IQ)... that being ...video!

Again you're entitled to your opinion, but stating your opinion like it's a known fact (when we all know it's not) just detracts from your credibility. You sound like you just want to run around stating you know the future and know exactly what will happen (when we all know you don't actually know it). Your arguments would have more credibility if you represented them as your opinion and then offered reasonoing for why you believe that's what going to happen.

1. That it was its 2nd in line camera... like D200 was before it and D100 before that... did they ever have a specific target group?

2.Yet you don't comment on the post... which is that the camera is selling badly!

3. What? ...all companies of this magnitude look for high numbers, D300 sale numbers not only don't create profit but can be harmful too... just because there are people that would require a new film camera, doesn't mean that is profitable for Nikon to make one!

4. The D300 when was first introduced, had no alternative for IQ... D80 was no where near D7K's IQ... cannibalization of D300, started with D700 and was completed with D90 ...D7K just "finished the job"... the worst FX in the planet is much better than the best DX but in video... an "FX price" DX that aims to enthusiast photography market priced up to FX level is a "dead duck" before it even reaches the selves... advanced video is the only aspect that can make a camera survive at this price level today...

5. why do you deny it?

6. why do you deny it?

It's just what Nikon has chosen as naming policy... do you see any different? 1digit for pro, 3digit -even numbers for FX, 4digit - odd numbers for DX... what makes you think is "my opinion"? I don't have opinion on facts... facts are facts and opinions are opinions... Do you see a current product not obeying to the current naming policy of them?
