Settings for bird photos on FZ200?

I've seen some very successful bird shots n this forum using a FZ200. Can anyone suggest ideal settings for generally 600mm (or near to) grab shots of birds. For example, is it better to stick to f2.8, or maybe go out to f4 in order to improve lens performance, living with the slower shutter speeds that will result?
