Test of A99 (VG900) deep DOF and DR

Andrew Reid has compared the A99's sibling, the VG900, to various other devices.  Here is his comparison of a frame grab:

The full video, presented at the EOSHD site, includes the 5D, GH2, and GH3 in the comparisons.  Reid was favorable to the RX100, NEX5, and even the HX9V, but disappointed by the VG900.  The a99 has more still photography features, obviously, but presumably shoots video more or less similar to the VG900.

The ability (or necessity) to capture uncompressed video with a Ninja is relevant only to people who shoot ads that demand heavy editing and effects.  Others might dismiss the BMC or any other camera that can be optimized only by that approach.  But Reid's tests suggest no clear reason to covet the FF Sony or other brand models for the sake of video, unless one's over-arching objective is narrow DOF, and DR or sharpness don't matter.  Otherwise, a NEX5, GH2, HF G10, or PJ710 are saner ways for fellow soccer dads to go.

Blunty is quite generous towards the a99, but he leans towards the a77, once price enters the picture.
