I've been running Windows 7 64bit since it became available, and over time there have been a LOT of updates...

I recently installed Windows 7 pro 64 bit on a new system, and it developed this slow startup problem.

What I discovered is that the computer was doing Update installations on startup, sometimes without the "announcement screen" you would normally get.

Instead of the announcement I would just get a black screen, and a lot of hard-drive churning.

This may be what you are seeing.

Hi yes that's it but I have told the PC not to do this ? just to down load them and I will chose when or if to install.

Phil.

Ps the PC is fine after start up even if I restart it.
