My 2 cents......buy a low cost prime like the 50 f1.8 (if you shoot more portraits) or if you want a general purpose prime you have to spend a bit more to get the 28 f1.8 or 35 f2.

Make sure your technique is right (no camera shakes, good exposure) and see if the results have improved with the above primes. If you are still not happy then you may have to change the body. Good thing is that the primes work great on any new canon body you get.

On my 600D (T3i) switching from kit lens to the prime improved my pics greatly. the next best boost came from switching to Lightroom for PP (from DPP). I also bought the 24-105 f4L thinking it would make a big difference. While the colors are good, the overall image quality was not as good as primes.
