System for a series of large, digital picture displays?

I would think the simplest thing would be to go to each display (TV with DLNA) and start a slideshow from images that resides on your DLNA server on each one. I suppose there are ways to send content to the display, but I don't know how it works with multiple DLNA displays.

I read that there are ways to use an intermediary DLNA device, like an Android phone/tablet, PC, iPhone/iPad, or whatever and use it to tell the DLNA display to display stuff from the DLNA server (or something along those lines), but I don't know how many displays that methodology supports.
