Odd, I had a 5D3 for a week recently, and I didn't experience any problems like that. I wasn't shooting with a 50 f1.2, but with a Canon 24-70 f2.8L, Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC, Canon 70-200 and 135 f2. I did a lot of shooting in the studio, using the end cross type sensors exclusively and focus was, for the most part, bang on. The caveat here is that I wasn't shooting wide open, but at 5.6.

I would bet that all 41 AF points would produce similar results at 5.6 but I bought this to shoot open.

It would seem that I can't predictably do that with the outer AF pts. ( at least on my camera)
