I am trying to upgrade to a new camera and I am debating between the Nikon 3200 and the Sony SLT A57 and I need some feedback from someone that owns an A57.

I want to use to use this camera to take fast action shots for sports. In the reviews on this site it says that there is a problem with the 10-12fps shots in that it isn't real time and you can't actually see the shot you are currently taking. How serious of a problem is this - is it as bad as they are saying or is it overstated? I am looking for something to take football, volleyball, rodeo and horse show shots so it is going to be pretty fast paced and I don't want to spend $1000 on a camera and lenses only to find out I can't get the shots I want.

Is the A57 going to be a better choice than the D3200 for the type of pictures I am taking?

Also, what is the delay when taking pictures in normal mode - in other words when you push the button to snap a shot does it take immediately or is there a delay before it actually takes the picture? I have an old camera now that has a lag time and it is really annoying, I'm hoping that is a thing of the past!

Thanks in advance for the help!

cbuck,

I do not think you can find a camera below $700 that can beat the A57's performance and features. I used this camera for our family reunion's water volleyball and other action shots. Here are few sequential sample images with the 16-50.;
