The things frequently do not work unless the transmitter and receiver are connected to the same leg of your house wiring.
This can be a killer. I ended up biting the bullet and stringing some CAT6.
There is such a thing as a phase coupler that can solve that problem. I read about it when researching x10 modules and powerline networking.
