Image Stabilisation is an invaluable tool to increase image sharpness and improve focusing accuracy under most conditions. Exceptions include when the lens is being thrown side-to-side or rotated rapidly. None of your subject matters would demand such violent movements.

School indoor stage events: IS recommended, panning mode may be useful as an option

Dinner parties: Shorter exposure times recommended, but IS is useful when you need to drag the shutter

Award presentations: IS recommended, panni'lng mode useful.

All of which points are true enough, but have no bearing on the OP's question about moving subjects being rendered any sharper with Anti-Shake/Image-Stabilisation engaged.... (they are not)

I'll add, and this has been commented on by others, that taking a shot quickly, at high shutter speed, has resulted in blur because whilst focus was obtained, IS was still sorting itself out when the shutter was pressed resulting in a lost shot.
