What is this obsession with politeness? Honestly, who cares? I don't have to work or live with anyone here, so I couldn't care less about how nice they are.

Give me competence any day over niceness. By your criteria, I would probably be banned eventually because I'll be abrasive if I have to to get my point across. Take a look at this thread:

If you scroll down a few days ago, you'll notice a heated debate that I was involved in. I believe I was entirely right, but I wasn't polite, nor should I have been. If I placed a premium on being nice, my point would never have been made, and perhaps the people involved would know less about cameras today.

Sometimes, what 90% of the people believe is entirely wrong. You can't really debate the majority while focusing entirely on being polite.
