All this reminds me of how *PHOTOGRAPHERS* enjoy shallow depth-of-field and good bokeh and framing the whole head in the shot etc, while the general public could give a $*(# less

Actually, I found that general public finds out of focus backgrounds quite pleasing.

Well, I guess it depends. Sometimes there's just nothing else to do because of the background. But I also think that the shots I'm seeing in magazines and such are lacking anything but concern for the subject so the background isn't even considered most of the time. But often a background is available, it's just that the photographer is just too prone to open aperture.
For most photographers, shallow depth of field is a tool that can't be used enough. But whenever I see it in a photograph, my eyes water as I try to resolve all that blurry and make it sharp. That's why I enjoy landscape photography because it can all be sharp, and just like when I'm there I'm able to look around the scene and notice everything in clarity as it should be.
Fashion photography seems awkward if this is how it is done. I apologize for my ignorance. I don't see the beauty of using the camera to make images like that. But most people like it, so maybe it's me.
My landscape shots are always better with a tripod. That's what I know.
