Best MILC for Shooting Figure Skating?

I have been back and forth on the weight issue - and the fun factor.

I believe I have talked myself into the fact that she will really only use this kit on a tripod at sporting events.

And, maybe on a tripod in the yard where she loves to take extremely close-up (it can't even be called Macro - she's that close!) photos of flowers, leaves.... the discussion of a macro lens will have to wait though:-)

She has her P&S which satisfies her fun factor right now. I'd rather get the sports photography kit for her now, then upgrade her P&S later for all the "teen gimmicky stuff" she'll use when she's just running around.
