I have used my non-OS 150 Sigma quite often on a D700 for portraits.
Shooting at 2.8 or 4 with a posed subject I put the focus point on the subject's closer eye, I find focus speed a non-issue. Background, subject isolation are, IMO, quite appealing.
It is an excellent portrait lens for heads, my favorite.

To me, the Sigma 150 is a must have, versatile bargain for FF.
I don't know how it will perform on a D800---I'm guessing it will do quite well.
