Nexus 7 - Photo Management

Hi before I pull the money from from my wallet I just want to confirm that the Nexus 7 can easily upload photos, RAW and Jpeg, from an SD card for viewing and minor editing.

Now if I understand it right I need a micro USB cable to female USB and an SD card reader with a USB connection.  On the Nexus I need to download a file manager app and of course my RAW viewers, in my case CR2 and RAWvision, and editing app.  Do I need to also download Nexus Media Importer?

Using this setup can I also download word, excell files, photos etc from a USB pen drive?

Finally am I right in thinking I can only transfer images off the Nexus to a computer via WiFi or connection to a computer via the USB connection.  I can't download back to an USB pen drive or an SD card.
