First, I have not done a merged panorama.

But, it is my understanding that if you shoot 6 or 8 RAW photos, LR4 will get them "developed" equally, as a batch, with few workflow steps.  Then with 6 or 8 match digital photos, Photoshop can merge them.

I think the bracket may help in two ways.  Not all tripods will let a camera swivel freely in the vertical position.  Second, using the bracket and tripod ensures the edges of each photo line up well so that Photoshop has less work to do and can make a better final photo.
