I Feel So Dumb...

The framing on each is different enough to make this a difficult comparison.  If you concentrate on the skin tones, it looks to me like they are both off by about the same amount.  The Canon skin looks a bit red to me and of course the Sony is a bit green.  With skin though red will always look  better than green.  Of course this is on my monitor which is pretty good, but it could be showing color different than yours.

That said, I do notice a green cast using my a700 especially with certain lenses; mostly under dim lighting.  For portraits I almost always tweak the colors to improve the skin tones.  Even with jpeg you should be able to fix the color and exposure easily.  I know that is not what you want to do every time.  Your camera or lens might be somewhat at fault, but it is difficult to judge based on these shots.  I would expect better for an outdoor setting though even if everything was set to automatic.
