This was taken off the OMD facebook page. The first words out of the lens developement leaders mouth is lens size. Prior to performance or price point, it's lens size. This is no great revelation to anybody, but it is interesting to hear it from the horses mouth.
o share with you one of the challenges we faced during development.
As always, the big challenge was in making the lens as compact as possible. To achieve the exceptional level of performance that we intended for this lens to deliver, high-speed lens movement was required, which could only be accomplished by using larger motors than before. We also added a snapshot mechanism. With such features, we would not be able to meet our targeted product size using conventional construction design.
That is why we reviewed every single part and its positioning within the construction to achieve the desired compact size. As a result, this lens required higher precision in assembly than before, but our well-versed factory team members overcame this challenge with their dedicated efforts, and we succeeded in making this lens available for all to enjoy'
