I Feel So Dumb...

I FINALLY figured out how to set, and the value of setting, Custom White Balance   It's really cool when whites are white instead of yellow, and when reds are red rather than some stupid pale orange color.

Now I can only ask why can't this be the default result when I chose AWB?  Why do I have to reset the WB every time I change lighting situations?   Why does my wife's Canon G1X consistently provide more accurate colors?  Not just more vibrant or more saturated colors, but more accurate?

I don't know if I'm rejoicing or complaining.  I wouldn't trade cameras with my wife, but the G1X really nails the colors.  A quick custom WB fixes the problem, but why would I have to do that?
