Why are Nikon 1 lenses (CX) the same price as Nikon FX versions?
Nov 29, 2012

The Nikon 1 - 18.5 f/1.8 (effective 50mm on CX series) is $219

The Nikon G - 50 f/1.8 G is $219

There is lot more glass in the FX lens, etc.  And it can be used for all three formats (FX, DX, CX), albeit at different effective FL.  So are we being charged a premium because the 1-series is new, or because of smaller production runs, or otherwise.  Part of the allure I would think is to spend less money, in addition to carrying less weight.

I will likely still get one to go with my V1 (arriving Friday hopefully) as I need something for lower light than the kit lenses (and the 10mm f/2.8), and the 32mm f/1.2 will likely be a while.  But I find it odd that they cost the same, as I'm guessing the cost of production is not the same.
