Hello,

I'm planning a trip to Sesto Fiorentino, Italy in the spring with my family and hope to take lots of pictures with my D7000. I currently have Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8-4.5, Nikon 105mm macro, and Nikon 70-300mm VR II lenses in my bag.

I expect to be shooting everything from people to landscapes and don't want to carry around all that glass.

I'm considering picking up a used intermediate zoom such as the Nikon 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6G or Nikon 15-105mm.

I see that Ken Rockwell prefers the Nikon 18-200 VR, but it's a little pricey. Don't want to spend more than about $300 as the airplane tickets alone are through the roof right now.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Based on the replies so far, most suggest you'll do best with wide to mid range focal lengths.  You already have the 18-50 Sigma and the 105 Nikon...You could leave it at that or replace those two with the highly recommended 18-105.  The VR will come in very handy in low light settings.

Leave the 70-300 home.  I have one and like it a lot BUT...it is heavy and if you aren't going to use it frequently, will be a burden.
