I've been caught out in a downpour with my K-30 - about half an hour of downpour during which the camera was just hanging on its strap facing downwards or shooting photos.
A small amount of water did find its way into the various doors though not enough to be of much concern.
I think that rather than poor sealing it was due to the zoom lens sucking air and water into the camera. I should have known better than to actuate the zoom in those conditions - something which I think Pentax should mention in the manual.
As for the OP's issue it seems to me to be just an unfortunate case of faulty assembly.
