HS20 - Film too dark

Hi, new here and hoping to get some help with my camera, its a finepix HS20 and i am testing out its recording capability's. When i press the record button the film goes really dark and i can't see anything. Anyone know how to make the film brighter?

I know its probably a basic question but i am new to digital cams and really want to get the most out of it, if anyone can help with this question that would be great thanks.
