I read the above just at the right time. I'm on my way to the lake right now to try some BIFs in sports mode for the first time (and maybe some in-camera HDRs). Not seeing the individual shots probably would have thrown me at first, but you now have me prepared. Thanks my friend.

See Dale's next post...you do see the image between shots, but as you are shooting 5 fps it is just a flicker. Enough to follow motion though.
Thanks Stephen. I didn't even see any sort of flicker. But since I was shooting inside with dim light and a stationary object, I suspect the shutter speed was fairly slow and there simply wasn't time to see more. I do believe you that outside in good light when following a bird, one would see enough image change to follow the action. I haven't done it yet, but I am sure you are correct.
