Hope you ask on the NEX forum about the types of mount adapters, so you can hear from people who have used them.

The NEX7 is pretty good in low-light, for a crop sensor camera with such a high megapixel count.

If you can afford to go full frame, then of course an a99 would give you a huge step up in low light performance, with much more usable quality at ISO 6400 and above.

Upgrading to a crop-sensor SLT could give you better AF in low light thanks to phase detection AF, and would give you more options for powerful flash units that you could bounce off the ceiling or walls, but it might not improve the image quality much otherwise.
