Easy, and actually the D800 can do 5 fps, not just four.
  • Manual focus
  • VR off
  • High enough shutter speed
  • M mode (Auto ISO is OK in M mode)
  • Camera in CH

Not sure what's the buffer is...souls that be like r05? I dI'd try with your settings and it did not work. I have it set on M mode ,shutter 2000 , 5.6 ..using a 24-70 2.8 lens. Do you see something else I need to do. I am hoping the camera is not broke. Oh and I am only using ones battery.

Of those settings, only CH and shutter speed are really important.

To get 4 fps (or 5 in DX mode), automatic focus should work. VR can be on. M or A or about any other mode should work.

I would guess that you have some peculiar setting somewhere that slipped in the wrong position, but I have no idea what it could be.

You could try setting a1 and a2 to release, and see if that changes anything. It might in some circumstances. Of course, if you are sure you use Manual focus it should not matter.
