Really? Then why didn't Sony do it, when they are putting so much R&D into getting people switched over to digital viewfinders?

I've never had this in a digital camera myself, but I used to have a Nikon film camera with a split-image focusing screen in the middle of the viewfinder. It made manual focus really easy, you just adjusted the focus until the top and bottom parts in the middle lined-up. And it only took up a small part of the viewfinder, so you could easily compose your shots as well as checking focus.
