It should be set to one or the other, never both. With the E-M5 I would definitely set it to that. A question to the OP is have you had good feeling of the lens at 300mm. I have read several critiques which say the sharpness falls off at 300mm. I have the lens and to be honest am not sure what I should expect of it as I have not seen any photos at 300mm on-line.
