Hi all,

First post on this forum and this site. What a great resource of information.

My reasons for the XE1: I bought the Panasonic GF1 in 2009 and now felt ready to upgrade. I bought the G5 but realised that it was more about the sensor, good high ISO capacity, EVF and image quality. The XE1 ticks the same boxes that the GF1 did three years ago.

The G5 was a wake up call. Not that it is a bad camera: on the contrary, it's a great camera - in fact I might even argue that it's a better or more mature camera than the XE1, but it helped me  see that to me it's more about the system and image quality.

I started asking myself why I'm really using m43. Remember that a G5 or OMD with a zoom lens of reasonable low light capability (Pana 12-35) will cost 1.500-2.000 euro and weigh 700 grams. The Fuji XE1 + 18-55 costs 1.400, has good low light capacity and is roughly the same weight. That also applies to the lenses I would be using with m43: Pana 25, Voigltländer 25 or Pana 7-14.

I might have stayed with m43 if there had been stellar reviews of the Oly 17 mm 1.8 or indications of an EVF on the upcoming GX2, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

The XE1 + 18-55 is a great one lens system. I might revise that after acquiring the 35 mm or the 14 mm, but anyhow I feel more confident just packing the zoom and going for a trip than with m43.

Cheers,

Niklas
