A55 flash does not always engage and pop up

It started a couple of months ago but when I click the button to pop up the flash I can hear a little motor running as if to try and release the flash but it doesn't pop up. After a few tries it eventually does pop up and work. Has this happened to anyone else? Obviously my warranty is no longer valid and I'm not sure it would be worth the money to send it to Sony.
