Nikon 70 - 300mmVR , dx v fx?
Nov 28, 2012

Hoping the more technically minded of you can satisfy this poser i`ve set myself.

If I take a picture at 300mm with this lens on a D7000 (DX) it`s giving me an effective focal length of 450mm taking the crop factor into account.

So I have a 16mp picture at 450mm when compared to a FX sensor?

Now, if I take the same picture, with the same lens and focal length, on a D600 (FX), I have a 24mp picture at 300mm. So, if I were to crop this picture to 75%, this would effectively be a 450mm shot with a resolution of 18mp?

This means the 70-300mm would perform better on a FX model?

Have I got this right or is my technical thinking completely wrong??

Just debating whether its worth the upgrade to the D600 eventually.....

What are other readers experience of this lens when comparing dx to fx performance?

Nikon D600 Nikon D7000
