I mainly use my Nikon 16-35vr for landscape photography and I chose it for that purpose as it takes filters, but I'm also an architect by profession so I do also use it to take record photos of buildings that we have recently completed at work.
Here's a couple using a D700 and the 16-35vr. It's a hotel and spa that we completed earlier this year here in the north of England. The photos are all single exposures - blending multiple exposures is something I need to learn more about in order to get over the issue of blown highlights.
I use the software PTLens to get rid of lens distortion and to get verticals straight where needed. It's a doddle to use and cheap to buy.
