I bought the X-E1 because:

  • It's small and light
  • Has manual marked controls for shutter, apeture, exposure comp
  • The IQ is stellar, even at high ISO
  • I like Fujinon lenses

I haven't felt so connected with a camera since I used FM2s and Contax Arias in the 90s.  I've found most DSLRs to be too bulky and heavy with poor/small viewfinders (compared to film SLRs).  My first digital camera was in fact a Fuji F601z, and although it only had a 3MP sensor I generally really liked the output of that camera.  I suspect it was due mainly to the lens.  A few years ago I used a Fuji 6x9 rangefinder and again I loved the rendering of the Fujinon lens.  I've been a solid Pentax user for the last few years, and I was really hoping they'd come out with something like the X-E1.  We got the K-01 which was OK, but in the end I sold all the Pentax stuff and (impatiently) went out and bought an OM-D (which was closer to what I was looking for: small, light, good IQ).  At that time, I considered the X-Pro1 but found it just a bit too big for my liking.  Then, after reviewing the output of the OM-D and seeing the X-E1 appear, I realised that I should have waited...  So, the OM-D went and I now have a camera that I just love taking everywhere...
