Chinese Winter: Will the 1d Mk II stand up to it?

I was planning to take my trusted 1d MKII along with 17-40L lens to China for my upcoming trip.

I'm told by the local canon service centre that the 1d MK II will stop functioning below 0 deg C. Any advice from others who have been shooting in cold climates will greatly help.
