ST200 real world wi-fi experience?

Christmas is fast approaching and my fiance has decided that she is ready to begin carrying a camera in addition to her cellphone. While she likes the idea of better image quality, she wants to be able to upload her photos to her phone for Instagram, Facebook, e-mailing, etc.

I'm not familiar with the wi-fi or bluetooth when it comes to connecting a camera to a phone. We are both technically proficient people, but I'm not sure how usable this feature is in real life.

One of the cameras I'm looking into is the ST200 which appears to have wi-fi connectivity built-in. Does anyone have some real world experience with this feature?

My primary concern is that implementing the feature would either be 1) too involved to connect for a single photo (she likely wouldn't use it), or 2) the feature cannot be used ad-hoc (connecting to her phone directly without a connected network bridging the connection).

Any thoughts?
