I beg to differ, it does make a difference. Other than noticeably snappier response even for normal edits, it makes a significant difference when merging multiple exposures for a HDR or a panorama. The panorama also has a feature when PSE tries to extrapolate the final image vertically to fill the edges. This does not work at all if you've 4 GB or less.

I think of memory like sex. Less works fine until you've more and realize what you've been missing.
