Gerry, do you know if a linear PL will focus with LV contrast detection? Or does it only throw phase detection focus off. Just curious: I usually use my circular PL in live view anyway.

I don't know enough to be sure, Miles, but I can't see how linear polarisation would affect measurement of contrast at the sensor.  If they are OK with CDAF it means the wheel is coming full circle and the more expensive CPLs will get rarer.
