Best MILC for Shooting Figure Skating?

I'm sure experienced professionals with years of practice are still the standard for photographing the Olympics. It's not the gear that makes them great. Compare a D40 with what was advanced technology in 1970.

When I was using my 80-200, wide open, in manual focus, on my d3100, I managed to get about half the shots in focus on my dog. He, a border collie mix was much less predictable than any figure skater. And I've never really practiced that kind of focus tracking.
