So there's a lot of discussions regarding FOV of M43 vs FF, and I think I have a good grasp on that aspect.

Thought one thing that bugs me is light gathering. Let me ask the question with a simple example:

Suppose I have two camera setups:

  • 25mm f1.4 lens on a M43
  • 50mm f1.4 lens on a FF

Same scene, same placement, shot wide open at say ISO 200. Assume that processing between the cameras is exactly the same, I set the exposure to 1/100, will I get the same image in terms of amount of light gathered?

I'm amazed how many times this issue was raised on this forum: http://www.dpreview.com/search/forums?query=equivalence&forum=1041

And despite the clear answers on this forum, and even blogs about it (e.g. http://www.clarkvision.com/articles/does.pixel.size.matter/#The_f_ratio_Myth or http://www.stanmooreastro.com/f_ratio_myth.htm) there is still a lot of intellectually challenged people trying to prove the Earth is flat and the sensor size doesn't matter. Some of them trying to dodge the issue claiming that sensor technology matters more than size, so small sensor can always be made better than a large one. Which, of course, is nothing more than an effort to mislead the others. The sensor efficiency is very high nowadays and even if some sensors are technologically better, it's the photons that count! Surprise, surprise, the ideal sensors have noise too! Even an ideal m4/3 sensor can never approach today's FF sensors.
