Then what in the world are you arguing about?! Please look at the underlined sentences, they directly contradict each other.
How so? Perhaps, it's because English is not my native language. Perhaps this is clearer: "When you consider RAW to be more 'forgiving', you imply that it would be allowed to commit 'sins', so to say, when shooting in RAW and expecting to get away with it."
Is that it?
That's the worst hair-splitting argument I have seen in at least a week.
The fact is, photographers and auto-exposure algorithms occasionally mis-judge exposure, so one, indeed, expects that some pictures will have somewhat wrong exposure. I do not know if this counts as a "sin" according to whatever moral standards programmer may have, but it's certainly undesirable yet common.
When this happens, and photographer taken a RAW image, he can adjust processing to compensate, and for some, common range of such error in exposure, he will end up with a good image.
When this happens, and photographer taken a JPEG image, the room for adjustment is very narrow, and he may not be able to get acceptable image even if he would if he taken a RAW image instead of JPEG, all other conditions and mistakes being equal.
That's what is commonly described as "JPEG is less forgiving", as far as exposure is concerned. Details and filtering just add to this.
My comment was aimed at the notion, mostly represented by old-school photographers, that it is a reflection of flawed technique when one has to resort to RAW processing. As a consequence, some RAW shooters might feel apologetic. I was suggesting that one shouldn't think about RAW shooting in terms of 'forgiving', which has a negative connotation. Instead, I was suggesting something like "freeing from certain limitations" , compared to shooting in JPEG, or even "enabling". I made a philosophic statement, not a technical.
