I can tell you one thing - one reason I used to avoid LR was because I liked the colors in DPP better. However now that LR has the Canon camera profiles (under the Camera Calibration section on the right), by choosing one of those the colors are identical to what I see in DPP. So I have to assume Canon shares such info with Adobe or makes it public.

This is simply a camera profile that Adobe has developed to mimic the picture styles of the Canon cameras. For Nikon they have developed similar camera profiles. I don't know if they Canon or Nikon involved but I don't see the reason they should have.

I never use these profiles. Instead I have profiled my camera using Xrite colorcheckers and software. And then I edit the pictures to my liking.

I did some tests a and I found even mimicked the colours are pretty close. I created a few presets for skin tones I like. Not to mention the hundreds of free presets out there. You can create interesting images in seconds.

Adobe camera faithful vs DPP faithful

I was shooting formals when I looked over. I did not want to miss this candid moment so I swung my other camera around, flash as pointing in the wrong direction, never checked exposure.

I don't tink I'd ever manage this type of recovery with DPP
