Thom Hogan review of NEX-7

I started with the kit zoom, then one by one added the Sony 50mm 1.8, the Sigma 30mm 2.8, the Sony 18-200, and finally the Sony/Zeiss 24mm. All decent lenses, except for the kit zoom which I found to be really mediocre. And yes, I usually do shoot jpeg's and don't do a whole lot in the way of post production. I really like my NEX-7, and it has some features that I will really miss. Also, the upcoming 35mm would be a giant step for me ( I have it on preorder) because that focal length is a sweet spot for me. I'm not trying to take anything away from the NEX. I really like it, but I just couldn't love it. After one weekend with the X-E1 I really did fall in love with it, and with the Fuji 35mm. Their 18-55 is getting great reviews, and I can't wait to get my hands on one. That's just a perfect range door me and the Sony 18-55 was such a disappointment.

These mirrorless cameras are so different from the SLR's we've used for such a long time and, for me anyway, the NEX really takes some getting used to. The EVF alone is a big transition. Personally for me, and it is just a personal preference, I prefer the X-E1. I don't feel like I'm fighting the camera. It's a feeling I had with my Nikons, but I just couldn't quite get there with my NEX-7. And yes, I do love the way my OOC JPEG's look, regardless of how Fuji gets them to look that way. I share all of this only in an effort to offer another alternative to anyone who might be experiencing the same frustration with the NEX-7 as I did. Hope it helped.
