Looking for an Beginners Equipment Package for Wedding Photography

Can someone recommend a camera, flash and lens for wedding photography. I have about a $1500 budget. I don't mind buying used or older models. I know the lenses should be a bigger investment than the body. I am looking at the EFS 17-55 f2.8 but I know its expensive. Wedding photographers have told me its the only lens they need in all lighting conditions. Any advice??
