The Sony E-Mount 50mm f/1.8 allows a nice depth of field option when we want to accentuate certain subjects or features. The NEX-5N has an on-screen feature where all the settings can be viewed together, very handy when shooting.

Here are some shots of the Everett artifacts, with settings as noted. The 50mm prime is fast so we can match the focal plane with exactly what we want the viewer to notice. Good light helps the camera give consistent reads, photo to photo.

I shot these on Aperture Priority, the camera acts as my "assistant" by choosing the shutter speed and ISO, although I verify what it's choosing and will override if I don't like what I see.

F/1.8, exposure 1/80 second, ISO 250.

F/1.8, exposure 1/80 of a second, ISO 250.

F/11, 1/20 exposure, ISO 3200.

F/1.8, 1/80 exposure, ISO 250.
