Have you tried placing an IR filter in front of the flash?
Funny thing is, the Metz macro flash comes with one, a flimsy thing that is easily knocked off. But I discovered that with RC mode on, the IR filter isn't even needed to cover the FL-LM2 and I never use it. I get zero exposure contribution from the FL-LM2.

If you just have the FL-LM2 on the camera and no other flash, and you shoot into a mirror do you get a dark frame, or do you see a flash in the photo (coming from the FL-LM2). Feels like I'm missing a setting, but the statement in the manual and my experience so far would suggest otherwise...
The IR filter on the metz should make no difference, since it is receiving in this case...
Coming from a Canon background - no problem using an on camera flash to trigger another flash without the first one contributing, even though it fires the actual flash (visible light).
