Hello forum,

I just watched Will's video on the Olympus 75-300 and was not so surprised to hear your comment or his comment on the Panasonic 100-300

The point of the discussion over this video and Will's review (if you can call it a review) is that he trashed the 100-300 because it is not as good as the Nikon 70-200.

I watched the whole thing and that never came up. In fact, he said at the end that he wanted to try to solve the problem with the Panny 35-100 2.8 (I think) and engage the crop mode in the camera.

He made this statement in his post before he made the video. You need to follow the sequence of events and realize that he misquoted Ann who spoke about the safari. His posts and the video were based on an incorrect premise.

However, Panasonic needs to make lenses on the long end past 150 mm at minimum a prime or fixed focal lengths at either 2.8 or 4.0 constant. I think that would be better with out creating huge zooms that defeat the MFT's idea too much.

I agree, however, the size could be a problem. This is where 4/3 would be a better choice.

How does the logic work where the m4/3 equivalent of a lens has a size problem but the 4/3 equivalent does not?

Because the 4/3 bodies are physically larger and, therefore, better suited to a larger lens.

The 100-300 is just ok and I think the $500 cost is justified. I am not an Olympus user for anything and can not comment on Will's review first hand, but I am not disagreeing.

Again, Will trashed both lenses for the wrong reason. The 100-300 is a good lens for the price and, with the Oly, is the only native option currently available. Could it be better? yes, but not at that price and size.

He said that they have AF issues and were slow. How is that the wrong reason?

Note: He also said that he was not an experienced long lens shooter and that other photographers might have a different experience. I, for example, really like my 100-300 so far.

As I said above, he was comparing the Panny and Oly lenses with Canon and Nikon 70-200 lenses which cost several times more. These lenses are not an option for Ann.

Nobody is saying the Oly and Panny lenses are the greatest lenses on earth or that they are equal to the 70-200. However, Will said they are equal hence the disagreement. Look at his posts where he said that they are equal.

However, some are saying that the 100-300 is greatly improved with the electronic shutter of the G5 and GH3.

I shoot mine on the G5 and the GH2. I will have to test a bit more thoroughly to see if there is such a noticeable difference.

Please let us know.

Allan
